Chinese University Faculty/Administrators Meet with President’s Office

On January 7, 2020, Nicole A. Hawkes, Chief of Staff and Francine M. Ramirez, Director of Administration of the President’s Office at Cal Poly Pomona welcomed nine special guests from Hohai University. These faculty and administrators were sent to Cal Poly Pomona to participate in a three-month professional development training program hosted by GEI. 

The Hohai visitors provided a comprehensive overview of the university administration and President’s Office. They had a constructive and productive discussion with the group on the higher education administration systems between China and the United States. During the meeting, Nicole and Francine also addressed the many of the group’s specific questions in regards to best practices that the Cal Poly Pomona administration has implemented. After the meeting, Mr. Ma Mengke, Associate Director in the Office of Hohai University Administrative Committee shared “The faculty and students that we met here take great pride in and ownership of Cal Poly Pomona.”

Since arriving this past October, the program participants observed the various classes and labs in the different academic colleges. In addition, the program participants also attended special lectures from Cal Poly Pomona faculty that covered many administrative and course design topics.

Since 2015, the university has sent many students to the short-term programs and degree programs at Cal Poly Pomona and has become an important strategic partner. Hohai University will send 33 students to GEI’s Student Innovation, Entrepreneurship and Leadership Program at Cal Poly Pomona in February 2020. Hohai University plans to send more students, faculty and administrators to participate in different programs at Cal Poly Pomona in the future.
