Financial Aid Offers to Incoming Students Being Processed

The Financial Aid Office has started sending newly admitted students their provisional financial aid packages following the U.S. Department of Education’s months long delay in rolling out and processing FAFSA applications and getting that information to universities.

Incoming Students

Final financial aid packages will be sent to incoming and current students in early summer. Students were finally able to login and correct and finish their applications, and the Department of Education has begun sending reprocessed FAFSAs having fixed errors and bugs in the calculations. CPP has confirmed we are receiving the student-initiated corrections and the reprocessed system-generated ones.  Reprocessing of FAFSA forms began last week and that information has begun arriving at the university.

Do Now

“Right now, it’s important for all incoming students to review their financial aid offers and to read through the information provided for understanding,” said Jeanette Phillips, executive director of Financial Aid. And Scholarships. If there are any inconsistencies, for example if the housing plan used was for living with parents but you are going to live on campus, you need to follow the instructions to update the information. Is your state of residency accurate? If you were selected for any scholarships, see if they are included in your aid offer.  If there is an error, students should contact the CPP Financial Aid Office as soon as possible.”

Students should be aware that approximately 40 percent of all FAFSA applications had potential for inaccurate SAI calculations by the Department of Education. They are working through the fixes and will generate a new Student Aid Report for each affected student. Students should monitor their email for any notices about changes to their Student Aid Index (SAI). CPP will use the most recent Official SAI when the aid office sends Official Aid Offers beginning the end of May 2024. CPP is hoping to have received Cal Grant information by this time to be able to include the state aid programs in the revised offers.

Continuing Students

The Financial Aid Office expects to begin processing aid offers to continuing students during the normal time window in early June. The expectation is that aid offers produced in June will be official and no longer be estimated financial aid awards.

Students Can Still Apply for Aid

Incoming and continuing students can still apply for financial aid. The California Financial Aid Deadline is May 2. After May 2, federal aid programs are still available if Cal Poly Pomona receives a FAFSA. If you or any other college student you know has not filed their FAFSA or CADAA don’t delay, get it done asap.
