Cal Poly Pomona will celebrate National Transfer Student Week Oct. 19-23 with events for transfer students and their supporters.

From scholarship workshops to a resource fair and hayrides at the Pumpkin Fest, NTSW offers transfer students a chance to learn and connect with peers and campus resources.

PolyTransfer, which launched in 2014 to support underserved, underrepresented and first-generation transfer students through coaching, academic support and programming, is marking its 12th year with this upcoming week’s events. Claire Luevanos, PolyTransfer’s senior coordinator, expressed that the team is excited to celebrate transfer students and hopes they take advantage of the events and resources throughout the week.

“Transfer students are a big part of what makes the Bronco community strong,” Luevanos said. “We hope every transfer student feels recognized and knows there are people and programs on campus that are invested in their success.”

A male Chaffey College transfer student poses with Billy Bronco holding signs that say Proud Transfer and Besties with BillyLylah Razo, a psychology senior and PolyTransfer Peer Mentor, said joining PolyTransfer helped her connect with the campus community. She encourages new transfer students to attend NTSW to meet peers and foster new friendships.

Erik Garcia, a PolyTransfer peer mentor and senior technology and operations management student encouraged transfer students to get involved in NTSW and have some fun amid midterms.

“Students should come out and get involved to make connections that really help you succeed,” said Garcia. “I am especially looking forward to the PolyTransfer Lounge Open House. It’s going to be fun time having everyone gather there and network. And there will be donuts, which is a great way to start the day.”
