Focus on Finals

Study Tips

Tips for a healthier you

  • Planning Is Your Friend
Although it might seem overwhelming at first, prioritizing your study obligations ahead of time and making adequate time to schedule them in a calendar or planner can help set realistic study goals. Plus, you can schedule time for yourself to recharge and re-energize.
  • Take a Break
Avoid the temptation of non-stop study sessions, especially now that you are looking at a screen more than ever. Take 5 minute breaks to get up, step away from your study area and walk around to clear your head and keep you from burning out.
  • Practice Mindfulness When You Can
Mindfulness exercises are a simple way to lower your stress and can be done anytime, anywhere. If you're unsure of how to get started with resources like mindfullness apps or videos, visit the Student Resources page from CAPS.
  • Ask for Help
Although on-campus locations may be temporarily closed, the university is still open to support you remotely. Reach out to a Librarian for help on researching a certain topic, or check with your professor to see when they might be hosting online drop-in office hours.
  • Be Together... Apart
Continue to find ways to stay connected to your classmates, family and friends over phone or web based video services. Staying connected, even virtually, is a great way to manage your stress levels and take a moment to unwind. Plus, consider holding virtual study sessions with classmates for an added layer of support!
Digital Connection

Viviana's Tip: Stay Connected... Virtually

Staying connected with friends and colleagues is important during this period of social isolation, and can help manage the stress associated with finals. A virtual hangout can help you stay motivated to keep going.

Study Desk

Rachel's Tip: Take some time to set up your study space

Your study space area can go a long way in keeping you focused. Think about what items you might want close by -- having a difuser with essential oils or a candle can help you stay relaxed, and water, tea, or coffee can also be helpful.

Notebook

Sophie's Tip: Create your own study guides

Using the notes your professor provides, you can create your own personalized study guides for one or all of your classes, allowing you to stay focused on the questions and topics that you need to spend extra time on. This is a great way to ensure you are prepared as best you can be!
