Policies and Procedures for the Office of Research

The policy governing Prinicipal Investigator status can be found in two places:

  1. CSU Chancellor's Office Executive Order 890 (EO890)
  2. CPP Policy 1206

Cal Poly Pomona promotes the highest ethical standards of conduct in research and creative activities. Despite being extremely rare, when it occurs misconduct in research can have a significant impact on the reputation and credibility of the University, its faculty and students and cannot be tolerated.

The Misconduct in Research Policy 1207 provides a set of procedures for investigating and reporting instances of alleged or apparent misconduct in research and creative activity.

The distribution of ICR to each Principal Investigator is based upon the PI’s grant expenditures and the IDC rate for the individual grants.  The Foundation charges a 4.5% administrative fee for every dollar expended, and this fee is taken from the indirect costs.

IDC Available = ($$ Expended x IDC rate) - 4.5% Foundation Administrative Fee on expenditures*

*Note that there will be no IDC available if the IDC rate is less than the 4.5% Foundation Administrative Fee

IDC Return (ICR) to PI = 11% of the IDC Available

The remainder of the IDC is apportioned to the Office of Research, Innovation, & Economic Development and to the colleges.  Some colleges keep their revenue at the college level.  Others share the revenue with the departments.

If the ICR for the PI is a small amount it will be combined with that returned to the college.

Distributions will be made quarterly or biannually depending upon the circumstances.
