General Information

The Collins Ambassador Program is designed to provide students in the Collins College a unique leadership opportunity. Ambassadors are involved with outreach, recruitment, and public relations activities for the College. Those students selected to serve will gain valuable experience working with a team of students, interacting with the public, and developing leadership and career skills.

Duties

  • Represent the College at outreach, recruitment, and public relations activities, both on and off campus
  • Provide information to prospective students, parents, teachers, and counselors, regarding student life at Collins College including co-curricular and extra-curricular activities, scholarship opportunities, study abroad programs, and career options in hospitality
  • Conduct presentations, workshops, information booths, and campus tours
  • Support and attend major college events and host any industry guests in attendance
  • Provide Collins College walking tours to prospective students and guests

James CastilloJames Castillo 

Major: Hospitality Management

Why Collins?

I love Collins College because of the daily positive encounters on campus.  Students are always friends.  Faculty is always helpful. The Collins College has the most state of art classrooms at Cal Poly Pomona.  There are numerous resources and opportunities to build my career.

Career Goal: To be a General Manager/COO of a private club

Professional Experience: Handheld Catering, The Riviera Country Club, Bohemian Club.

Co-curricular activities: Treasurer of Club Managers Association of America (CMAA), Member of National Society of Minorities in Hospitality (NSMH)

Major: Hospitality Management

Why Collins?

Because we are given the tools and resources to develop our dreams of working in the hospitality industry into reality. 

Career Goals:

To become the Director of Rooms and then become the General Manager of a full service hotel.

Manuel HernandezManuel F. Hernandez

Major: Hospitality Management

Why Collins?

The professional development, academic growth and opportunities I have been given during my college years have been possible due to the resources and amazing staff at The Collins College. The philosophy of Cal Poly Pomona, "learn by doing," cannot be better reflected than by The Collins College, with classes, activities, and clubs available for all students to learn about the hospitality industry first hand.

Career Goals:

I am eager to submerge myself into a profession within the industry, particularly in hotels. My internships and work opportunities have confirmed my aspirations of working with people, being part of a team, and growing professional - all things I know I can and will achieve in the hotel industry. I aim to carry my career into the corporate levels of a hotel organization, ultimately applying my leadership skills at a professional level.

Career Goal:

I hope to be the Director of Special Events for a hotel in a large city such as Los Angeles or New York City.

Professional Experience:

Food and Beverage Intern at the Conrad New York for Hilton Worldwide, and Sales and Marketing Intern at W Hollywood for Starwood Hotels

Career Goals:

I hope to work as the Director of Operations for a large-scale resort brand.

Professional Experience:

Why Collins?

The Collins College has encouraged me to be involved and expand my comfort zone. All students and professors up the hill know each other and treat each other like family. Nobody is afraid to start a friendly conversation or catch up.

Career Goal:

To be a General Manager of a private club.

Professional Experience:

Knollwood Golf Club as a food and beverage manager

Co-curricular activities:  

Honors college, 4-year pledge, Greek life, CMAA, Eta Sigma Delta hospitality honors society.

Career Goal:

My career goal is to become a high level manager in at a sports & entertainment facility
