Transitioning from Blackboard

Log In To Blackboard

As of June 30, 2023, Cal Poly Pomona's contract with Blackboard will be over. After that time, no one at Cal Poly Pomona will be able to retrieve any data from Blackboard in any way. Faculty and staff must retrieve data they wish to keep, such as course or organization materials, rosters and grades, and student work products or organization participants' products, from Blackboard before June 30, 2023.

Cal Poly Pomona will maintain the legally required 7 years of LMS archives. In June 2023 this will include 2 years of Canvas and 5 years of Blackboard. Neither IT&IP nor CAFE can provide Blackboard archive retrieval for individuals. Faculty and staff are encouraged to retrieve their own materials and archive student work for themselves. This may be important for assessment, accreditation, scholarship, letters of recommendation, etc.

  • Course content or organization content including documents and attachments of all kinds
  • Student work or organization participant work of all kinds and format, including discussion boards, journals, wikis, blogs, and exams
  • Student and participant rosters and grade records

  • Most course content and organization content, including documents, can be exported from Blackboard and imported to Canvas. Course content and documents can also be manually downloaded and then placed in Cal Poly Pomona's OneDrive system or other secure cloud-based solutions, or retained on a secure hard drive.
    • Exporting course content and documents from Blackboard does NOT include student or organization participant work, rosters, or grades. Student work must be downloaded separately.
  • Student work, discussion boards and the like, and rosters should be stored in Cal Poly Pomona's OneDrive system or other secure cloud-based solutions, or retained on a secure hard drive.
  • See CPP Guidelines for Data Handling & Storage.

  • Faculty and staff will need to personally ensure this.  There is no technical solution for IT&IP or CAFE to be able to tell what data has been retrieved.

  • Log into Blackboard as soon as possible. We recommend having the bulk of the retrieval done by March 1, 2023, so that there is time to check and ensure you have what you need.

See below for online tutorials, zoom sessions, department or college workshops, and one-on-one appointments.
