LA Escena Festival of Hispanic Classical Theater

LA Escena Festival of Hispanic Classical Theater 2022

Date: September 12, 2022 to September 18, 2022
Time: 4:30pm to 9:00pm
Location: Online & in person

LA Escena is Los Angeles’ first Hispanic classical theater festival, organized by Diversifying the Classics. Since the inaugural edition in 2018, LA Escena has brought the best of Southern California theater together with acclaimed performers from around the world to celebrate the comedia in performance and adaptation.

This year's Festival features, among other companies, Nao d'Amores, and Állatok with a full production of Miguel de Cervantes' Numancia and Lope de Vega's El animal de Hungría. Állatok and Nao d'Amores are some of the best and most innovative Spanish theatre companies working on Early Modern Theater today. This is a unique opportunity of seeing these productions in the States.

This edition of the festival has been funded by a one time-grant that has allowed Diversifying the Classics at UCLA, with which Dr. Marta Albalá-Pelegrín is affiliated, to fly two companies from Spain to LA. (She is personally really fond of Nao d'Amores!)

The festival is Spanish/English bilingual, with Spanish productions having English subtitles. More information and reservations for free tickets for the Festival are at the LA Escena 2022 website.
