Caltrans Announces Connector Road and On-Ramp Closures Along SR-71 Freeway Starting on Monday, March 4

Summary of disruption: The California Department of Transportation announces various closures of State Route 71 (SR-71 Freeway) between State Route 60 (SR-60 Freeway) on Monday, March 4 through Friday, March 8 for road repair work. Drivers should expect delays and look for posted detours. All work is subject to change due to weather conditions or construction-related issues. The closures may start and end later than scheduled, subject to weather and work conditions.

The dates, times and locations of the closures are:  

 

Monday, March 4

Westbound SR-60 connector to northbound SR-71 Freeway closed from 7 p.m. to 6 a.m. on Tuesday, March 5.

Southbound SR-71 on-ramp from Rio Rancho Road closed until 3 p.m.

 

Tuesday, March 5

Westbound SR-60 connector to northbound SR-71 Freeway closed from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. and from 7 p.m. to 6 a.m. on Wednesday, March 6

Southbound SR-71 on-ramp from Rio Rancho Road closed from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

 

Wednesday, March 6

Westbound SR-60 connector to northbound SR-71 Freeway closed from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. and from 7 p.m. to 6 a.m. on Thursday, March 7.

Southbound SR-71 on-ramp from Rio Rancho Road closed from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

 

Thursday, March 7

Westbound SR-60 connector to northbound SR-71 Freeway closed from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. and from 7 p.m. to 6 a.m. on Friday, March 8.

Southbound SR-71 on-ramp from Rio Rancho Road closed from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

 

Reason for disruption: The closure will allow Caltrans crews to perform work that is part of the SR-71 Expressway to Freeway Conversion Project. Real-time traffic information can be found at http://quickmap.dot.ca.gov/.   

What do I need to do? Expect delays and follow detour signs. Slow down and proceed with caution when approaching the freeway closure. Residents and businesses located near the freeway should anticipate noise, vibrations, and dust associated with construction activities. Allow extra time to get to destinations.
