Throughout February and March, the Cal Poly Pomona College of Engineering Femineers® partnered with the Pomona Girl Scouts to create exciting projects, including a giant pinwheel! The collaboration culminated at an all-day event on March 7th at the 2020 STEA2M Fair at Pomona Fairplex. The Femineers® made the giant pinwheel to bring attention to Girl Scout troop’s successful cookie sales. Cookie boxes were cut up to form the petals of the giant pinwheel. Meanwhile, the middle school troop members created a scene out of the cardboard shipping boxes including a house and a rainbow, while the younger troop members made individual pinwheels out of Girl Scout pencils and cookie themed paper. While being mentored by female engineering students from Cal Poly Pomona, the Girl Scout troop improved their strong foundation of teamwork and communication, as well as implementing the engineering design process to transform a plan on paper to a real-life model. The troop was excited to participate, and other attendees of the STEA2M Fair were encouraged to learn more about the Girl Scouts and the Femineer® program.
