1:00 PM to 2:30 PM - Bldg 66-202: Join us for a Guest Lecture titled, "The Politics of Passing: Disciplining Hypervisible Trans and Gender Non Conforming Bodies of Color with Jackie Caraves, Ph.D. Candidate at UCLA's Chicana and Chicano Studies Department. Jackie's talk will address how gender works as an axis of power to discipline and police racialized Trans and gender non-conforming bodies within their family, when looking for work, in prison/detention and in broader society while also shedding light on the resilience and resistance of Trans people. Caraves also is a co-host of "Anzalduing It" Podcast. This event is co-sponsored by the Pride Center and the Ethnic and Women's Studies Department.

50th Anniversary of East L.A. Walkouts

4:00 PM to 5:00 PM - Grand Reading Room, 3rd Floor University Library: Join us in welcoming Cassandra Zacarías to Cal Poly Pomona, who will be sharing her experiences and reflections as a student leader in 1968 of the Garfield High School Strike Committee, which was part of the larger East L.A. Walkouts (or Blowouts, as they are simultaneously known), where some 10,000 high school students walked out to demand better schooling conditions. Dr. José M. Aguilar-Hernández will serve as moderator. The event is sponsored by the César E. Chávez Center for Higher Education (CECCHE), the University Library, and the Ethnic and Women's Studies Department.
