Safer Return at Cal Poly Pomona

Spring 2022 Schedule

Subject: Spring 2022 Schedule

Dear Faculty,

In August, I asked you to plan for at least 51% of our spring schedule to be taught face-to-face. As of today, about 68% of our spring classes are face-to-face. Thank you.

We are committed to the return to campus in Spring 2022. Our campus Health and Safety Plan, including such components as the vaccine and mask mandates, have made it possible for us to plan for this safer return to campus. For many of our courses, the return to face-to-face instruction will allow for greater levels of engaged learning in support of our signature inclusive polytechnic education.

Later this week, we anticipate that our accreditor, WASC Senior College and University Commission (WSCUC), will invite us to apply to operate in distance education modes (i.e., online and hybrid) during the spring semester. We will apply for this so that programs with a demonstrated need to offer more than half of their curriculum in online or hybrid instructional modalities will be able to do so.

At this time, the spring class schedule is largely complete, and there should not be major changes made to it. Students begin registering for spring on Monday, October 11. As with prior semesters, we are committed to not changing instructional modalities of classes after students have registered. If changes are requested, due to student demand, those changes must be approved by the department chair, dean, and AVP for Academic Programs. If additional sections are opened, they may be offered in any approved modality.

For those of you teaching hybrid classes, please make sure that your meeting pattern is in the class schedule. If it is not there, please work with your department chair and/or scheduler to include this information (instructions for schedulers are available here). Please also send a message about the class meeting plan to your enrolled students before the end of this semester. This will help assure a smooth start to spring and reduce student anxiety levels over the winter break.

I greatly appreciate your continued dedication to our campus community.

Sincerely,

Iris S. Levine, DMA
Interim Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs
