Grade Change Options FAQs

You will be able to select the ABC/No Credit grading option for fall 2020, winter 2021, spring 2021 and summer 2021.

The choice is yours -- however, if you want to opt for ABC/No Credit for any of your classes (or AB/No Credit if you are a graduate student), you will need to follow the instructions we will provide to make the selection.
If you do not want to change the grading for any of your classes, you don’t have to do anything.

For Fall 2020, Winter 2021, Spring 2021 and Summer 2021 Grades

Each term will have specific deadlines to opt-in. Continue to check your CPP email and the website regularly for information about when you will be able to change your grading options for Winter, Spring and Summer 2021 terms.

For Spring 2020 Grades

After May 8, 2020, you can change your grading choices by submitting an e-form on the Registrar's Office website (under the Registration/Records section). The Registrar's Office will begin processing forms on May 27, 2020, and it will take approximately 7-10 business days for your grades to update.  See below for specific deadlines.

This table outlines the two student groups and their e-form deadlines.

Spring 2020 or Summer 2020 Graduates June 19, 2020
Continuing After Spring 2020 or Summer 2020  December 13, 2020

Yes. You will be able to choose which classes you want to take for ABC/No Credit.

We want you to make a thoughtful decision in consultation with your advisor and/or instructor.  Up until December 6, 2020, you can make any edits to your grading options for fall 2020 in your BroncoDirect Student Center.

Regardless of your grading option, we will automatically convert all F grades into No Credit. This will happen as soon as your final grade is posted.

If you earn a D grade and didn’t opt into the ABC/NC grading option and you want to change, you can submit a form on the Registrar's Office beginning December 7 until December 21. The form will be posted on the main page of this site

If you earn a D grade and opted into the ABC/NC grading option and you want to change to the letter grade option, you can submit a form on the Registrar's Office website beginning December 7 until December 21. The form will be posted on the main page of this site

No, you can select this option for as many courses as you'd like during Fall 2020 through Spring 2021. However, please check with your advisor if you are concerned that this selection may impact future opportunities such as graduate school.

A No Credit (NC) is equivalent to earning a D+, D, D-, or F in an undergraduate course. A No Credit (NC) is equivalent to earning a C+, C, C-, D+, D, D- or F in a graduate course.

WUs are used when, in the opinion of the instructor, your completed assignments or course activities or both were insufficient to make normal evaluation of academic performance possible. WUs will not be converted to NCs, even if you opted into the ABC/No Credit grading option for the course. You should formally withdraw from courses to avoid receiving WUs.

No Credit grades are not calculated into your GPA.

If you earn a NC, you will not receive credit for that course and it will not count toward graduation. So if the course is required for your degree, you may need to retake it.

Undergraduate Students: Bronco Advising Center or your College Advising Center

Graduate Students: Graduate Studies

Veterans: Veterans Resource Center

International Students: International Center

Student Athletes: Student Athletics

You are strongly encouraged to talk with your faculty member and advisor before withdrawing from a course to ensure that you have access to all of the support available to you.

However, if after this consultation, you still need to withdraw, the deadline to petition for withdraw for serious and compelling reasons has been extended until the end of the term.

You’ll be able to see your final grades for fall 2020 in your Student Center the afternoon of December 16, 2020.

Choosing ABC/No Credit will not affect your fall 2020 fees.

There are no exceptions to the Dean's List requirements for 2020-21. The Dean's List honors undergraduate students who have completed, at Cal Poly Pomona, 12 or more letter grade units during the term with a 3.5 or better grade point average for CPP coursework.
