Linchi Kwok (Lingzhi Guo) is an Associate Professor at The Collins College of Hospitality Management in California State Polytechnic University Pomona (Cal Poly Pomona), where he teaches three upper division classes – Social Media in Hospitality Marketing, Hotel/Resort Sales, Advertising, and Public Relations, Tourism Concepts, as well as Hospitality Marketing Management. He is the Chair of the College's Curriculum Committee and serves in a variety of committees in the College and University.
Kwok came to Cal Poly Pomona by way of Syracuse University (SU) in Syracuse, New York, where he developed and taught several hospitality and management courses, such as Social Media in Service Operations, Hospitality Human Resource Management, Hotel and Resort Operations, and Leadership and Career Management. In 2011, he was named a Kauffman Professor in Entrepreneurship and Innovation at SU to support the university’s initiatives in teaching and research excellence in entrepreneurship and innovation. During his appointment at SU, Kwok also taught a social media class as an adjunct professor at Rochester Institute of Technology (RIT) in Rochester, NY.
Kwok's research interests include social media and its business applications, employee recruitment and selection, organizational behaviors, and service operations. In 2010, he received grant funding to support his research on social media, including the Harrah Hospitality Research Center Grant Award Program 2010 from the University of Nevada, Las Vegas. Since 2008, Kwok has presented over 30 authored/co-authored papers in a variety of peer-reviewed conferences in hospitality, information studies, and managerial psychology. His work has appeared in numerous journals, such as International Journal of Hospitality Management, International Journal of Contemporary Hospitality Management, and Cornell Hospitality Quarterly. He is on the editorial board for the Journal of Hospitality and Tourism Research and serves as an ad hoc reviewer for over 10 hospitality/social science journals and conferences.
Kwok holds a Ph.D. degree in Hospitality Administration and a Master of Science degree in Restaurant, Hotel, and Institutional Management both from Texas Tech University and an MBA degree from SU. Linchi’s professional portfolio also includes several years of managerial and hands-on experience in the hospitality industry in the U.S. and mainland China.
In addition to his work as a professor and researcher, he is a thought leader in the hospitality field. Kwok's perspectives on social media have been quoted in The New York Times, LA Times, and NBC News. He is also an active member of the community and have conducted invited presentations on dinner etiquette and research methods. See more.
