Non Profit Management Certificate (Online)

The Online Non Profit Management Certificate Program is a joint campus program developed by California State Polytechnic University, Pomona (CPP) and California State University, Long Beach (CSULB) under the advisement of non-profit industry leaders. It is designed to prepare professionals who are currently serving in the non-profit organizations, as well as individuals who are looking to transition into the non-profit sector.   The core competencies in this non-profit program will be taught through case studies in order to build knowledge and skills for quality management. The program consists of four, four-week courses.

Persons currently employed in nonprofit positions, or those outside the nonprofit sector who want to transition into nonprofits.  Those who may want to start a nonprofit, board members, donors, and volunteers for an organization.

  • NPM 110 - Effective Capacity Building
  • NPM 120 - Financial Management for Non-Profit Organizations
  • NPM 130 - Fund Development for Non-Profit Organizations
  • NPM 140 - Marketing a Non-Profit Organization
  • NPM 150 - Managing Human Resources in a Non-Profit Organization

For Dr. Linda De Long, Year 2020 marked her 30th year adjunct teaching in higher education! She teaches leadership, HR and management at various colleges/universities. Dr. De Long received her undergraduate degree from Cal Poly, Pomona, with an MBA in Organizational Behavior from the Drucker School in Claremont. She completed her Doctor of Education in Organizational Leadership from the University of La Verne. In 2016, she was the recipient of Distinguished Professor of the Year.

A native Californian, Linda grew up in the San Gabriel Valley; she is married to Charles for 25 years. Teaching is Dr. De Long’s passion as well as her community engagement work.

Zoot Velasco is the Director of the Gianneschi Center for Nonprofits at Cal State Fullerton’s Mihaylo College of Business & Economics.  He teaches online Nonprofit Management Certificate Program a joint campus program developed by California Polytechnic Institute, Pomona (CPP) and Cal State Long Beach (CSUB).  He has authored a book on nonprofit. 

As CEO or interim CEO for 6 community organizations and 7 government programs, his programs consistently grew by double or more under his leadership and garnered statewide and regional awards. Zoot holds an MBA from Hope International University, and fellowships/certificates in management, supervision, leadership, fundraising, mediation, and curriculum design. 

John Oppenheim was born and raised in San Francisco.  After graduating from high school in he enlisted in the U.S. Air Force.  After he was discharged, he earned a degree in Accounting at San Francisco State University.  He then spent a long career in software management, and eventually started his own company. 

As part of his “retirement” career, he became an adjunct professor teaching Marketing and Technology.  He also designed and taught a course in Accounting and QuickBooks for career and education centers. 

With his passion for both yoga and veterans, John has been teaching yoga for the VA Long Beach Medical Center in their recovery program at Century Villages at Cabrillo in Long Beach.

He currently resides with his wife in Long Beach.

Marie Carpenter has over 17 years of experience in the Marketing Communications field. Currently she serves as Director of Development at CASA of Los Angeles, a nonprofit organization that mobilizes community volunteers to advocate for the needs and best interest of children in LA County’s child welfare system.  In her role at CASA/LA, Marie oversees the organization’s marketing efforts that include website management, social media, newsletters, annual reports, advertising and branding. In addition, she oversees all campaigns associated with fundraising that include donor engagement, corporate giving and major gifts from individuals.  Marie previously worked at the Los Angeles Regional Food Bank focused on community collaboration, as well as marketing and communications efforts.

Marie holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Communications, with an emphasis in Public Relations from Cal Poly, Pomona.
