About Me

Alison Pearlman is Professor Emerita of Art History in the Department of Art at Cal Poly Pomona. She is also a McGinnis-Ritchie-award-winning author of nonfiction. Her books on contemporary art, design, and restaurants include Unpackaging Art of the 1980s (University of Chicago Press, 2003), Smart Casual: The Transformation of Gourmet Restaurant Style in America (University of Chicago Press, 2013), May We Suggest: Restaurant Menus and the Art of Persuasion (Agate Surrey, 2018), and the forthcoming Meet Me at the West Beach Café: Art, Restaurants, and the Rebirth of L.A.
