Letter of Recommendation

Requesting a Letter of Recommendation

As a faculty member, I consider it a privilege to support my students through letters of recommendation. If you feel that I know you and your work well enough to write you a strong letter, please email me at khuh@cpp.edu to ask. Let me know briefly what you are applying for and why you are reaching out to me in particular.

Once I have agreed to write your letter, please send me the following eight items at least three weeks before your earliest application deadline. Having complete information well in advance allows me to write the most thoughtful and specific letter on your behalf.

  1. Your personal statement (also called a statement of purpose, or SOP). This should explain why you want to pursue the program or position, your relevant strengths and areas you are working to grow, and your goals for after you complete the program or step into the role.
  2. Your intended focus area within the program or position.
  3. The programs or positions you are applying to, including their names, relevant details, and website links.
  4. Your most current resume or curriculum vitae.
  5. A list of the courses you have taken with me, along with a short description of any project you developed, whether individually or as part of a group, and a note on how that work connects to your current application.
  6. Any other work we have done together or that may strengthen your application, such as an independent study, senior project, campus project, or student club involvement.
  7. Your unofficial transcript.
  8. Your application deadlines, along with the submission method and, where applicable, the name and email of the contact person for each program or position.

Thank you for thinking of me, and I look forward to supporting your next step.
