Faculty Bio

Lauren Furey (Ph.D., University of Florida) is an Associate Professor of Communication and Associate Chair of the Communication Department. She received her M.A. in journalism, with a focus in business and economics reporting, from Columbia University’s Graduate School of Journalism and her B.A. in communications, with a concentration in journalism, from the University of North Florida. She teaches in the Multimedia Journalism option, advises The Bronco Guide magazine, and co-leads a Media & Politics Research Team.

 

Prior to teaching, Professor Furey worked as a journalist and has published in newspapers like the Jacksonville Business Journal, The Florida Times-Union, Lubbock Avalanche Journal, Daily News Egypt, Daily Star Egypt, and Pakistan Christian Post. Her research centers on media’s coverage of women, especially women in politics. Also, she studies how political coverage, news aggregators, and social media affect attitudes and voting behavior.
