Faculty Bio

Lauren Furey (Ph.D., University of Florida) is an Associate Professor of Communication in the Communication Department. She teached in the multimedia journalism option, advises The Poly Post student newspaper and Bronco Guide magazine, as well as co-leads a Media and Politics Research Team with undergraduate students. Outside of teaching, she researches the portrayal of women in politics by the news media and in popular culture and co-hosts a podcast featuring interviews with women politicians called The Pink State.

Prior to becoming a professor, Dr. Furey worked as a journalist and has published in newspapers like the Jacksonville Business Journal, The Florida Times-Union, Lubbock Avalanche Journal, Daily News Egypt, Daily Star Egypt, and Pakistan Christian Post. She also wrote for New York Times and Wall Street Journal editors and columnists while completing her master's in journalism from Columbia University's Graduate School of Journalism. She received her B.A. in communications, with a concentration in journalism, from the University of North Florida.
