Introduction

Dr. Ellips Masehian is an associate professor at the Industrial and Manufacturing Engineering Department at California State Polytechnic University, Pomona. Prior to joining Cal Poly Pomona, he was an associate professor at the Faculty of Engineering, Tarbiat Modares University, Tehran, Iran. He received the B.S. and M.S. degrees in Industrial Engineering, both from Iran University of Science and Technology, Tehran, with honors, and a Ph.D. degree from Tarbiat Modares University. He conducts research in Industrial Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, and Computer Science. Particularly, his research is focused on the Automation and robotics, Manufacturing, applications of heuristic and intelligent methods to robot motion planning and assembly planning, as well as combinatorial optimization problems in industrial engineering.


Dr. Masehian has authored two university textbooks on Manufacturing Processes, and over 110 book chapters, journal articles, and conference papers. His publications have appeared in leading journals such as Artificial Intelligence, Engineering Applications of Artificial Intelligence, IEEE Robotics & Automation Magazine, Information Sciences, Computational Optimization and Applications, Computer Aided Design, Industrial Robot, International Journal of Advanced Manufacturing Technology, Journal of Intelligent and Robotic Systems, Journal of Manufacturing Systems, Robotica, Robotics and Autonomous Systems, etc. He has served on editorial boards of various journals and conferences as associate editor, guest editor, topic editor, program chair, session chair, reviewer, and steering committee member. He has advised over 50 masters theses and doctoral dissertations, as well as numerous undergraduate senior projects.
