About Me

Steven A. Preston, FAICP has focused his career on policy, public administration, design, historic preservation, and communications, concluding with eight years as the city manager of San Gabriel.  His work products have received local and state American Planning Association awards. Over the past four years Steve's courses have included social justice, public participation, policy analysis, and senior project preparation, among others. Steve is a proud CPP graduate (BS, 1980 and MUP, 1984) receiving Distinguished Alumnus honors from ENV in 1995.

 

Steve received the APA President’s Award in 2016 for Leadership in the Planning Movement. He previously served as president of APA California and the California Planning Roundtable, as a member of APA's national board, member of the Planning Accreditation Board, and has been named a Fellow of the American Institute of Certified Planners.  A frequent writer and presenter at state and national conferences, his most recent project was a California Planning Roundtable video series exploring the intersection of planning and race.  In addition to Cal Poly Pomona, Steve has taught for both USC, and for UCLA Extension, where he co-chaired its Land Use Law and Planning Conference for more than 15 years.
