Fearless Leadership is an intentional approach to institutionalize a Fearless Campus culture from a psychologically safe campus environment that enables performance and retention where university leaders build trust and respect with all stakeholders and where the leadership demonstrates empathy, compassion, and humility toward all stakeholders. internal and external.

Creating a fearless environment is the responsibility of every individual working collectively toward creating a collaborative Environment where people feel included, safe to learn, safe to contribute, and safe to challenge the status quo respectfully. The formal leader in the room has the responsibility to go first and is accountable for the outcome. This image, first created by Nordstrom, reminds leaders at all levels including staff that the customer comes first resonates with the Fearless Campus that it is the student that comes first.

The president found at the bottom of the pyramid is ultimately accountable and carries the burden to support the entire campus with each ascending leadership level supporting the levels above to ultimately serve the students.

The Fearless Leader conceptual module represents attributes on the left side of the triangle that create a psychologically safe (fearless) leadership environment that enables leader performance and retention at all levels within the university. The right side of the triangle represents attributes that create fears that can impede leader performance and retention. The white space at the top of the triangle represents barriers to a fearless leader environment. The animation illustrates how fearless attributes drive out fearful attributes creating a fearless leader environment.
