Grad Bronco Buddies

Dear Graduate Students,

On behalf of the Graduate Resource Center, we are writing to invite you to be a part of the CPP Grad Bronco Buddies program, which matches incoming graduate students with mentors like you, who have been in their shoes, have experienced the transition into graduate studies, and know what it takes to be successful. Becoming a peer mentor will make a big difference in your mentee’s life and academic progress, as well as enrich your experience as a graduate student.

We’re leveraging a mentorship platform called Mentor Collective to manage some of the behind-the-scenes operations (e.g. recruitment, training and matching) so you’ll start to see communication from them shortly.

Here’s how the mentorship program works:

  • Time Commitment:
    • The mentorships made will be for one term initially but can be renewed for subsequent terms. But we encourage you to stay connected with your mentee(s) after the program formally ends.
    • We recommend that you connect with your mentee(s) at least once per month.
  • Matching Process:
    • Mentees and Mentors complete a survey about themselves and their backgrounds.
    • Mentors must complete a self-guided, self-paced training course (approximately 60 minutes) before being eligible to be matched. This can be completed anytime between now and the beginning of the Fall semester!
    • Mentor Collective matches mentees and mentors based on what the mentee says is most important to them.
  • Mentees will begin signing up in early Fall.
    • We’ll begin inviting new students to register as mentees at the start of the Fall semester.
    • Once you are matched with a mentee, you will both decide how you want to connect, which can happen via email, phone, videochat, text, or in-person.
