George P. Hart’s untimely passing is a great loss to Cal Poly Pomona and to all those who knew him. For 30 years, he served the university as a Political Science faculty member and associate dean in the College of Arts. He was active on the Academic Senate from 1983 to 1995, serving as chair from 1987 to 1989, and being re-elected to the position shortly before his death. He also had served on the CSU Academic Senate since 1990. Hart earned his bachelor's degree from UC Santa Barbara, and a master’s degree in government from Claremont Graduate School, where he was a member of Phi Sigma Alpha, a Lincoln Foundation Fellow, and an Intercollegiate Program of Graduate Studies Fellow. He was working toward a Ph.D. in political science at the time of his death. Highly respected by colleagues and students alike, Hart was committed to academic excellence, and he worked tirelessly to encourage faculty involvement in governance of the university. Professor Hart's legacy is a tribute to his deep dedication to service and leadership in higher education.
