History
Unidos, formerly known as Latino Faculty, Staff & Student Association (LFSSA) is dedicated to supporting the academic and professional development of Latino faculty, staff, and students at Cal Poly Pomona.
Founded in 1981 by Dr. Richard Santillan and Irma Lozano, Unidos has a long-standing history of promoting community, leadership, cultural awareness, and diversity across campus. The group celebrates and promotes Latino cultural heritage, creating spaces where individuals can connect, learn, and grow.
Accomplishments and Impact
Unidos has made significant contributions to the campus community, including awarding eight unique student scholarships, thanks to generous donors and fundraising efforts such as the Día De Los Muertos T-shirt and sweatshirt sale.
The group also plays an active role in organizing and supporting key events, including the Annual Día De Los Muertos event and the Unity Luncheon, which recognizes diversity champions from the student and staff communities. Through their advocacy and resource efforts, Unidos continues to be a strong voice for the Latin community on campus.
