A Message from President Soraya Coley

August 24, 2018

Welcome to the start of the academic year and to the first-ever semester in Cal Poly Pomona history! Today was the first day of classes and it is always a thrill for me to see students infuse our campus with positive energy.

I especially offer greetings to all our new students. The campus community stands ready to help you succeed, and I encourage you to take full advantage of the resources and opportunities that come with being a Cal Poly Pomona student.

In my remarks at our annual Fall Conference event last Monday, I reflected on our recent achievements and our vision as the model for an inclusive polytechnic university. You can watch the full video of the Fall Conference event here.

A highlight of Fall Conference was the announcement of a new branding initiative, including a new logo and seal. While the essence of the Cal Poly Pomona “brand” is defined by who we are and what we achieve together, it is critical that the images and messaging that represent our campus serve to broaden our reach and give us opportunities to demonstrate what makes us unique.

Together as an institution, we have considered closely what makes our campus special. Particularly, what does it mean to be a modern inclusive polytechnic university? This question fueled the creation of our Academic Master Plan, which identifies eight specific elements that define a Cal Poly Pomona education. Our branding initiative grew out of a desire to communicate this uniquely Cal Poly Pomona story. Indeed, the octagon featured in the new logo serves as a visual representation of our deeply held values and helps us communicate to a variety of audiences the ways in which our university is unlike any other in the world. Similarly, our new seal ties strongly to our history, location, and ideals.

We will be rolling out the branding initiative over the weeks and months to come in a variety of forms and venues. I am proud of these symbols of our institutional identity and invite you to learn more at www.cpp.edu/brand.

This is truly a historic time at Cal Poly Pomona. As we commemorate our 80th year, our impact in California and around the world has never been greater. Our commitment to creativity, discovery, and innovation makes our campus an ideal place to learn, study, research, and work.

Thank you for all that you do for Cal Poly Pomona, and I wish you a successful year.

Go, Broncos!

Sincerely,
Soraya M. Coley
