CSU Announces Dr. Joseph I. Castro as New Chancellor

Dear Campus Community,

I’m pleased to join with the CSU Board of Trustees in announcing Dr. Joseph I. Castro as the new chancellor of the California State University. A first-generation college graduate and long-time champion for public higher education, Dr. Castro currently serves as president of Fresno State University. He will begin his duties as chancellor on January 4, 2021.

The CSU chancellor plays a crucial role in leading the nation’s largest and most diverse four-year public university system. As chancellor, Dr. Castro’s strong and determined commitment to access, opportunity, and the CSU mission will bolster the 23 CSU campuses’ shared vision of student success and our commitment to advancing knowledge, learning, and culture in California and throughout the world. I was pleased to serve as a member of the Stakeholder Advisory Committee that worked alongside the search committee, and I look forward to building on the bonds built with Dr. Castro as fellow CSU presidents.

You can learn more about Dr. Castro in the Board’s announcement, and I invite you to watch a livestream interview with Dr. Castro happening on Friday, September 25, at 11 a.m.

On behalf of the Cal Poly Pomona community, I congratulate Dr. Castro as the CSU’s new chancellor and also express gratitude to Chancellor Timothy White for his years of dedicated service.
