Continued Masking for Now

Subject: Continued Masking for Now

Dear Campus Community,

Based on new guidance from the Los Angeles County Department of Public Health, as of today (March 4) “masking will continue to be strongly recommended, but no longer be required, in most indoor settings” in the county. This decision is based on the continued and consistent declines in COVID-19 cases, test positivity rates, and related hospitalizations within the county. County and state guidance also gives businesses and other organizations the choice to require masking, regardless of vaccination status, for workers, students, visitors and others as a strategy to reduce the risk of COVID-19 transmission.

In the interest of our collective health and maintaining in-person learning, Cal Poly Pomona has decided to keep our masking requirement in place for now as we assess the impact of the latest county-wide changes on the community at large and consult with campus stakeholders on potential changes to our masking policy. Based on the information we gather and alignment with our institutional risk response plan, we will announce a decision regarding any such changes by March 25, prior to the start of Spring Break.

As a reminder, higher-grade masks and other personal protective equipment are available to you throughout campus free of charge as part of our overall Safer Return strategy.

In making today’s announcement, and future decisions, we continue to prioritize your health and safety, and our shared number one goal of student success, as we have throughout the pandemic.

Los Angeles County’s COVID-19 trends and updated guidance are hopeful signs that our collective efforts to reduce transmission are paying off and worth continuing.
