Dear Colleagues,

Thank you for your ongoing flexibility and commitment in preparing our campus to serve our students for the coming fall semester. Today marks the start of Stage II in our repopulation plan, and we are pleased to welcome the next cohort of Cal Poly Pomona employees returning to on-campus work. This milestone embodies our careful and gradual approach to reuniting our community as we recover from the pandemic and is an important step on the path to all staff returning to in-person, on-campus work on Aug. 2, as well as faculty returning on Aug. 17 when their contract begins.

Over the past several months, state and local public health protocols and policies have evolved rapidly with the ongoing success of vaccination efforts and the decrease in infections. On Thursday last week, Governor Gavin Newsom signed an executive order enabling updated workplace pandemic rules to take effect, including those for institutions of higher education. This determination eliminates most mask mandates for vaccinated individuals, ends physical distancing and barrier requirements, and updates regulations around testing and quarantining. Unvaccinated individuals must continue to wear masks indoors.

We are carefully examining the updated regulations and the implications for Cal Poly Pomona and will announce revised protocols for our campus shortly. We expect the new protocols to be in place and effective July 1. In the meantime, we ask all employees to continue following current protocols, including wearing face coverings indoors regardless of vaccination status. Please visit the Safer Return website for details about the face covering protocols currently in place and what to do when you’re on campus.

We strongly encourage everyone to get vaccinated for COVID-19 as a means of protecting your own health and that of our communities. The CSU intends to require vaccination for all students and employees for fall 2021 or upon full FDA approval of the vaccine, whichever occurs later. Learn more about the vaccine requirement and securing an appointment.

The Safer Return website and newsletter continue to be the authoritative and up-to-date COVID-19 informational resource for Cal Poly Pomona, and we encourage you to check it regularly for updates.

As always, thank you for your patience and understanding as we prepare for this transition back to on-campus work.
