Subject: Staying Safe During Fall Semester

Dear Students,

As you know, this Fall Semester, Cal Poly Pomona will be operating under virtual instruction, with limited exceptions for those courses with an in-person component.

We are encouraging students to learn from home throughout the semester to minimize the number of people physically on campus and help mitigate the risk of exposure and spread of COVID-19. While most students will be living off-campus, a limited number of students have been approved to live in University Housing and the University Village. Residence life staff have been working hard to ensure all appropriate safety measures are in place for residents.

The health and safety of the entire campus community remains a high priority at CPP. In accordance with Los Angeles County Department of Public Health (LACDPH) protocols, all students, faculty and staff who will be physically on-campus are required to complete virtual training sessions in support of a safer return. Additionally, all members of the campus community are required to complete a health screener any time they will be physically on-campus.

The university requires all students who are physically present on-campus, including student employees and residents, to do the following:

  • Complete one of the two available COVID-19 Safer Return training sessions. These trainings can be accessed on the Health and Wellbeing website.
  • Complete a Student Health Screener. Residents will complete this daily. Students approved for in-person learning components and student on-campus employees will also need to complete the screener each time they physically come to campus.
  • Cooperate with any incident investigations regarding potential COVID-19 cases on campus, as requested.
  • Contact Student Health and Wellness Services at (909) 869-4000, or their healthcare provider, if feeling sick or experiencing COVID-19 symptoms.
  • Refrain from visiting campus for in-person class or on-campus work if feeling sick, have been exposed to a person who has tested positive or has symptoms consistent with COVID-19.
  • Practice appropriate safety measures to help stop the spread.

Please take time to thoroughly review these measures as we work to maintain a healthy and safer campus for everyone. I encourage you to visit the Safer Return website for further information, and I wish you the best this Fall semester.
