The NSF ExFAB is developing first-of-their-kind user platforms and equipment to enable the discovery, phenotyping and engineering of extreme microbes to harness their power and promise and enable the next generation of synthetic biology. CPP in participation with UCSB and UCR have received $22 million form NSF to establish the biofoundry. 

ExFAB CSU Masters Scholars: June 8th-August 14th, 2026

Application deadline: March 16, 2026

Program Highlights:

  • 10-wk paid summer internship at UCSB or UCR
  • Travel costs and housing provided
  • Access to and training on cutting-edge biotechnology workflows
  • Professional development workshops

Eligible Students:

  • 1st or 2nd year MS students (senior-level undergraduates will also be considered).
  • Students with general lab research skills
  • Students interested in biotechnology-related careers or pursuing graduate studies
