Hello,

As you may be aware, Teamsters Local 2010, which represents skilled trades employees, has announced plans for a strike on our campus from February 17 through February 20, 2026. The issue at the center of this dispute involves salary provisions for the 2025-26 fiscal year and the level of state funding provided to the California State University. Under the Teamsters’ agreement, salary provisions were contingent upon the CSU receiving a specified amount of new, ongoing state funding. To meet that threshold, the CSU would have needed approximately $250 million in additional ongoing support. Instead, the enacted state budget resulted in a reduction of $143.8 million to the CSU’s ongoing base.

While the Legislature subsequently provided a loan to address the reduction, that funding is one-time in nature and must be repaid, and therefore cannot support ongoing salary increases. In recognition of these constraints, the CSU has committed to providing all employees with a one-time payment using the loan funds, subject to collective bargaining. However, the Teamsters are seeking ongoing salary increases, which require permanent funding that was not provided in the state budget.

Unions who are not participating in the strike are expected to report to work as scheduled and to perform their regular job duties. If you need to be absent from work for any reason, you must coordinate with your supervisor in advance following your department’s attendance reporting procedures. Unapproved absences may result in administrative or disciplinary action, consistent with university policy and applicable collective bargaining agreements.

Picketing activity may occur at some campus entrances. Employees may choose to enter the campus through an entrance without picketing, or to cross a picket line to access their work location. You are not required to share personal information, including your name, job classification, or work location, with individuals participating in picket activity.

We do not anticipate issues related to picketing activity. However, if there is an immediate safety concern or an emergency while entering or exiting campus, please contact the University Police Department at (909) 869-3070 to report the situation promptly. We recognize that this may be a challenging period for our campus community. The university remains hopeful that this matter will be resolved as soon as possible.
