University Permanent Collection
Since 1962, Cal Poly Pomona has been gifted art through donations from several generous benefactors, and acquired works of art through purchase awards through the annual, national Ink & Clay competition. As a result, the University has amassed an ever-growing, impressive permanent art collection of over 1,500 artworks and objects. There are four, main, donor-based collections, the acquisition-based Ink & Clay collection mentioned previously, and several other sub-collections, and smaller fine art collections made through the charitable contribution of other individual donors, artists and university supporters. Gift-in-kind donations require thoughtful consideration, follow the constructs of a current donation policy, donation committee approval, and solicitation of financial support for its maintenance. Preservation of the main collections are supported through Endowments or Trusts established by many of these donors, in order to maintain, house, store, frame, repair and conserve these works and objects for perpetuity.
Periodically, the collections are displayed at the W. Keith & Janet Kellogg University Art Gallery and Don B. Huntley Gallery through the galleries’ exhibition programming. The last University Permanent Collection exhibition was held at the Huntley Gallery in late 2017.
