Horsehill Vineyards is a collaboration project between Cal Poly Pomona and South Coast Winery in Temecula. Master winemaker, Jon McPherson of South Coast Winery is responsible for making the wine on behalf of the university. Along with Jon, more than 200 students are involved with the winemaking process, whether it be working the harvest or contributing to the sales and marketing aspect.
Students from the Don B. Huntley College of Agriculture are involved in growing and harvesting the grapes, which are then sent to the winery to be vinted and bottled. The finished product is marketed, poured, and sold by students from The Collins College of Hospitality Management.
“It’s very exciting to see wine coming out of a university.”
-John Solomon, local wine expert
