Dr. Sylvia Alva is the Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs. She leads the strategic and academic direction of the Division of Academic Affairs. In her role, she helped frame Cal Poly Pomona's new strategic plan and its bold and exciting initiatives and goals for the campus.

Provost Alva is a strategic and collaborative leader whose vision has informed other campus initiatives, including our student success strategies and the academic master plan that takes our proud learn by doing tradition and expands it to now include eight defining elements of a polytechnic education.
Sylvia Alva is a professor of developmental psychology and holds a doctoral degree in psychology from UCLA. Dr. Alva's personal and professional values include a strong commitment to equity, inclusion, and the transformative power of higher education, especially for first generation college students like herself.
