Timeline

Cal Poly Pomona submits funding request to the Chancellor’s Office for demolition

Initial funding of $800,000 received from the Chancellor’s Office for demolition

Project re-affirmed as part of the capital planning for the SSB building

Funding for the demolition project received. This project is 100% funded by the Chancellor’s Office

Interior and exterior demolition begins

Restoration of the site for a campus green space

Phase 1: Interior Demolition

Interior demolition will commence in March 2022 and will continue through May 2022. The Public Health Testing Site for COVID-19 will temporarily be relocated. Construction fencing will be erected in mid-March. The Aratani Japanese Garden will remain open during this phase.

Phase 2: Exterior Demolition

Exterior demolition is scheduled to begin on May 23, 2022. During this phase, the Aratani Japanese Garden will be closed. Occupants of the CLA Classroom section should use alternative work locations during the Tower and Registrar demolition because of safety and noise concerns. 

This phase is scheduled to be substantially complete in August 2022. The restoration of the site and surrounding areas will extend through March 2023. The extent of the restoration will be determined based on the remaining budget and the design for the improvements will be reviewed with the campus and Chancellor’s Office authorities in alignment with campus and CSU policy.
