Cal Poly English Language Institute (CPELI) is Virtually Available Now! 

The Cal Poly English Language Institute (CPELI) provides English language-related programs for international students. During the COVID-19 pandemic, CPELI offers customized cohort-based programs on a virtual basis. 

It is anticipated that CPELI will resume in-person instruction if the campus decides to reopen in Spring 2022.

Summer 2021 Online American Language and Culture Program

The American Language and Culture Program (ALCP) is specially designed for international students who are interested in improving their English proficiency and experiencing authentic American culture. This online program links classroom learning with fun activities. The participating students will not only enhance their English-language skills in listening, speaking, writing and reading, but also gain a deeper understanding of the many aspects that contribute to American culture.

Program Features:

  • Professional, experienced and engaging American instructors
  • Carefully designed lectures with a focus on improving the participants’ English listening, speaking, writing, reading skills and knowledge of American culture
  • Interactive activities (social mixer, ice-breaker, group discussion, panel discussion, etc.)
  • Peer meetings with American university students
  • Final presentations from participating students
  • Welcome and graduation ceremonies
  • Program assistants who are ready to provide assistance throughout the experience

Program Dates:

Session One: July 19, 2021 to August 6, 2021 (three weeks)

Session Two: August 2, 2021 to August 13, 2021 (two weeks)

Program Fee:

Session One: $1,280/person

Session Two: $590/person

with Conditional Admission

 

Enroll in IAEP if you would like to:

  • Prepare for study in an American college or university
  • Get conditionally admitted to undergraduate programs at Cal Poly Pomona
  • Learn American English for personal or professional growth
  • Enhance your English skills in reading, writing, listening, speaking, vocabulary and grammar
  • Prepare for TOEFL, IELTS or Duolingo tests

Admission Requirements of English Language Proficiency:

  • TOEFL (iBT): 61
  • IELTS: 5.5
  • Duolingo: 85
  • TOEIC: 575
  • CET-4: 425

Program Dates:

June 28 to August 20, 2021 (8 weeks, 160 hours in total)

TOEFL/IELTS/DUOLINGO Waiver

Students who successfully complete IAEP and pass the Cal Poly English Language Institute (CPEL) Level 5 Exam or Level 6 Exam will be waived TOEFL, IELTS and Duolingo tests when applying for undergraduate and graduate programs respectively at Cal Poly Pomona.
