Project Management Professional (PMP) Online

The Project Management Professional (PMP) certificate is designed to provide you with the key concepts in project management and help you become an effective leader.  The in-depth course concepts can benefit individuals who are considering project management opportunities, or those who have work experience and plan to pursue the PMP certification exam administered by Project Management Institute (PMI). 

This course covers the concepts, theory, practical material, and ethics required as formal training for the PMP certification examination as set forth by the Project Management Institute (PMI). 

Subject matter format following PMI’s guidelines:

  • People
  • Process
  • Business Environment with predictive, agile, and hybrid approaches
  • Course material based on the 6th & 7th editions of the PMBOK
  • Fulfills the 35 contact hours of formal training requirement for the PMP certification exam

Required Textbook: The Fast Forward MBA in Project Management: The Comprehensive, Easy-to-Read Handbook for Beginners and Pros (Fast Forward MBA Series) by Eric Verzuh

PMI Requirements:

Participants need to adhere to PMI’s PMP certification education and experience requirements which include:

  • A four-year degree
  • 36 months leading projects
  • 35 hours of project management education/training or CAPM®Certification

— OR —

  • A high school diploma or an associate’s degree (or global equivalent)
  • 60 months leading projects
  • 35 hours of project management education/training or CAPM® Certification

This course will be offered over an 8-week period covering 40 hours of online material with 8 required synchronous live online class meetings using Zoom and Canvas platforms. All course material will be online consisting of reading assignments, case studies, and practice test materials to be completed by the student anytime within the 8-week course duration. Information about accessing Zoom and the other online class materials will be provided upon course registration.

Lisa Vasquez, MBA, ACUE, PMP, CSM, is a leader with more than 15 years’ experience in technology, project, program, and portfolio management. Her experience includes having managed large scale global and domestic projects and programs across a wide range of disciplines, including healthcare, entertainment, financial services for Fortune 100 companies. Associate Professor of Project Management, she is known for engaging students with project-based learning to simulate real-world application.

She received a BS from Cal State LA and her MBA from the USW; she is a certified project manager with a PMP from the Project Management Institute, and a certified Scrum Master with a CSM from Scrum Alliance; she has a Credential in Effective College Instruction from the Association of College and University Educators (ACUE) and the American Council on Education.
