Autonomous Vehicle Laboratory Club

Meet the Team

The Autonomous Vehicle Laboratory Club (AVL) is a student organization affiliated with ASL and serves as the primary entry point for student involvement. Through AVL, students collaborate on ongoing lab projects, senior projects, receive training, and contribute to research and development efforts within the laboratory.

AVL hosts regular workshops during U-hour, led by faculty, students, and industry professionals, covering topics such as sensor fusion, computer vision, and best research practices. The organization also facilitates industry outings and supports student participation in hackathons and academic conferences.

Current research areas include but are not limited to: Imitation learning using RGB and depth/thermal cameras, Simultaneous Localization and Mapping (SLAM) and off-road Visual-Inertial Odometry (VIO), Cybersecurity for CAN-based vehicle communication systems, Active suspension systems and magnetic dampers, Effects of vibration on perception sensors, Path planning and obstacle avoidance algorithms, Computer vision for autonomous navigation.

The laboratory is equipped with a wide range of hardware and computational resources, including LiDAR sensors, depth and RGB cameras, racing simulators, go-karts, and high-performance computing systems.
