Unmanned Ground Vehicle
The Unmanned Ground Vehicle (UGV) is one of the 3 autonomous vehicles developed through NGCP, the mission of the UGV is to autonomously navigate to the position of an immobile patient and a supply package where it will then secure them both with a payload retrieval robotic arm and safely drop them off at a field hospital.
To accomplish this ambitious goal in under a year, we brought together 39 multidisciplinary engineers from a range of engineering majors. Our team is divided into three main sub-teams, each handling a critical aspect of the project:
Mechanical:
- The mechanical team analyzes, designs, and manufactures all mechanical subsystems of the vehicle, this includes the chassis/drivetrain components, payload retrieval mechanism, supply package storage, and all mounts for electronics and sensors. The team uses Solidworks for Design and Femap for analysis and does most the fabrication through 3D printing.
- Looking for Freshman - Master
- Skills we're looking for:
- Solidworks, Femap, Matlab, 3D Printing
- Engineering Drawings & Machining, testing, & experience with car repairs or with RC Cars/Planes
Electrical:
- The electrical team is responsible for all onboard electronics and power routing to the motors, actuators, sensors, and controllers. The team is broken up into 3 main custom PCB board teams, there is the digital hardware board, the power board, and the motor driver board. The boards are designed on Altium and manufactured to fit the power requirements of the vehicle each year.
- Looking for Freshman - Master
- Skills we're looking for:
- PCB design with Altium, PCB manufacturing, Soldering/Wiring, Power Systems Design, Hardware Testing and Validation
- Experience with Arduinos or electronics
Software:
- The Software team deals with all the software related to the vehicle, this includes autonomous navigation and obstacle avoidance algorithms, motor controls, Simulations, and learning to program on the Nucleo STM32 IDE using an Nvidia Jetson Orin nano as the main embedded computer.
- Looking for Freshman - Master
- Skills we're looking for:
- STM32CubeIDE, Autonomous Navigation Algorithms, Serial Communication, jetson Orin Nano, C++
- Experience with single board computers or microcontroller
