Brian S. Newman

Brian S. Newman (he/him) is an Associate Professor and joined CPP in the fall of 2020.  Brian teaches Stage Management, Stagecraft, Theatre Practicum series, and is the Department's Production Manager.  He has been a professional stage and production manager for over 25 years having worked for companies like Indiana Repertory Theatre, Hangar Theatre Company, Merrimack Rep, Berkshire Theatre Group, The Rev, Pennsylvania Shakespeare Festival, Cincinnati Ballet, Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey, and Cirque du Soleil.  

Currently, Brian serves as the Director of Production and Associate Managing Director for Utah Festival Opera & Musical Theatre.  He also represents the College of Letters, Arts, and Social Sciences on the University Senate where he serves on the Executive Committee.  Brian received the 2025 Wall of COOL Award for course content and design. 

Brian received his MFA in Stage Management from the Professional Theatre Training Program at the University of Delaware and his BA from Louisiana State University.
