About Me

Dr. Gwen Urey is a Professor in the Department of Urban and Regional Planning. Her research interests include broad areas relating to planning for non-transportation infrastructure: she has published book chapters on telecommunications and ports. She has recently begun research relating to planning for safer bicycling. In her courses on research methods and infrastructure planning, Dr. Urey engages student learning through community service, and she has coauthored a book chapter on service-learning in planning pedagogy. Dr. Urey served for nine years on the Planning Commission for the City of Pomona and for six years on the executive board of the California Planning Foundation. She served for six years as the chapter president of the California Faculty Association, and for four years as the faculty rights chair. Dr. Urey received a Bachelor in Growth and Structure of Cities from Bryn Mawr College, Bryn Mawr, PA, a Masters in Urban Planning from the University of Oregon, Eugene, OR, and Ph.D. in City and Regional Planning from Cornell University, Ithaca, NY.
