About Me

Dr. Nicole Elias is an Assistant Professor of Pavement Engineering in the Civil Engineering Department at California State Polytechnic University, Pomona. Her research focuses on asphalt mix design and highway/airfield pavement specifications. She has contributed to revising asphalt mixture criteria, implementing new mix design approaches, and developing sustainable technologies for use in local agencies, state Departments of Transportation, and federal organizations. Dr. Elias has collaborated on pavement projects with the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), Washington State DOT, Consortium for Asphalt Pavement Research and Implementation, the Regional Transportation Commission (RTC) of Washoe County, and the National Cooperative Highway Research Program, among others. Dr. Elias’s projects also emphasize enhancing the sustainability of asphalt roadway networks. Her work included laboratory and field evaluations of Cold in Place Recycling (CIR), a green rehabilitation technique that reuses existing asphalt materials in place.

In parallel, Dr. Elias has industry experience in pavement design, life-cycle cost analysis, forensic investigations, maintenance and rehabilitation strategies, and pavement management system for local agencies in Southern California. Dr. Elias is an active member and coordinator in several professional organizations, including the Association of Asphalt Paving Technologists, the Transportation Research Board, and the Academy of Pavement Science and Engineering.
