Bio

Sarah Krainin is a scenic designer, object artist and puppetry artist. Previously based in New York, she resided as props artisan for Richard Foreman's Ontological-Hysteric Theater. In Los Angeles, Sarah has designed sets and/or objects for Center Theatre Group, The Fountain, Deaf West, The Industry, and multiple workshops and productions at the Getty Villa including for SITI Company productions of Trojan Women and The Persians

Sarah has taught and appeared as a guest artist at Illinois Wesleyan University, Pomona College and Duke University, where she developed “living scenery” (scenery that is brought to life by puppeteers) for Torry Bend Puppetry, and performed with Bend at LaMAMA’s new puppetry work-in-development series. Sarah has worked in production design for film, tv, music videos, commercials, events, magic and dance, and her productions have won awards from Comic-Con and L.A. Drama Critics Circle. At CPP she teaches courses on topics including theatrical design and puppetry, and is currently contracted for a book on how theatre makers collaborate through asking questions. Sarah received the Outstanding Faculty Advisor award for her college in 2022.

Sarah has a B.A. in Theater and Classical Civilizations from Wesleyan University, and an M.F.A. in Scenic Design from CalArts. Her creative work centers on bringing worlds and objects to life in unexpected ways, and she delights in sharing the thrill of discovery with students at CPP!
