Dr. Yang has gained significant experience during the past few years on food safety and food science extension. Below are the detailed activities:

Projects:

  • Serve as Produce Safety Rule co-trainer in collaboration with UC Davis and UC ANR, delivered PSR courses on July 9-10th, August 13-14th, August 27th-28th, 2025.
  • Serve as FSPCA PCQI 2.0 Lead Instructor at Cal Poly Pomona, provided training for 23 participants (students and industry professionals), Summer 2025.
  • Produce Safety Rule Grower train-the-trainer (TTT) course completion, Summer 2025.
  • Serve as FSPCA PCQI 1.2 Lead Instructor at Cal Poly Pomona, provided training for 16 participants (students and industry professionals), Summer 2024.
  • Serve as HACCP Lead Instructor provided training course to 5 industry professionals from Southern California, Spring 2024.
  • Serve as FSPCA PCQI 1.2 Co-Lead Instructor at University of Wisconsin – La Crosse during Summer 2023, provided training for 19 participants (students and industry professionals).
  • Serve as HACCP Lead Instructor provided training course to 8 industry professionals from Southern California, Summer 2023
  • Serve as FSPCA PCQI 1.2 Co-Lead Instructor at UC Davis during Summer 2022, provided training for 23 participants (students, industry professionals and international government officials).
  • Serve as HACCP Lead Instructor provided training course to 7 industry professionals from Southern California, Summer 2022.
  • Creation of food safety online training modules in collaboration with UC Davis, Purdue university and University of Wisconsin – La Crosse (supported by USDA grant)
  • Creation of “Produce Food Safety Research and Methods” course for minority students
  • Produce safety rule compliance facilitator for Cal Poly Pomona campus farm
  • Participate in Western Food Safety Center events and activities
  • Collaboration with food safety organizations (California Certified Organic Farmers and Agriculture & Land Based Training Association)
  • Assessing food safety knowledge and training needs among urban agriculture practitioners in California.
  • Speaking engagement with a variety of local farmers and food processors.
