What is the Mobility Scooter Project?

Mobility scooters, a type of electrically powered scooters, are an affordable and popular type of assistive mobility technology. The number of accidents involving mobility scooters were treated in American Emergency Departments has been increasing every year.

The research goal of this project is to build a data-driven user-centric driving safety assessment system for mobility scooter drivers, for self-use at home or in the clinical setting to assist doctors and rehabilitation experts. To achieve this research goal, a multi-disciplinary project team comprising of faculty from Computer Science and Kinesiology and Health Promotion Departments at Cal Poly Pomona, Computer Science Department at the University of Texas San Antonio (UTSA), Casa Colina Hospital and Healthcare Centers, and Center of Excellence at CSU Northridge has been assembled.
