MSTI STEM Authorization Awards
Awards
CEMaST will be selecting candidates to receive $1,000 MSTI STEM Authorization Awards for Cal Poly undergraduate/credential students or multiple/single subject teachers to obtain their Supplementary or Subject Matter Authorizations in Computer Science, Math or Science.
Supplementary Authorizations
Supplementary Authorizations may be added to a Multiple or Single Subject Credential and are based upon 20 semester units or 10 semester units of upper level coursework in a specific area. Introductory Supplementary Authorizations authorize the holder to teach the supplementary subject matter content typically included in curriculum guidelines and textbooks for study in grades 9 and below. Specific Supplementary Authorizations may be added to a Single Subject Credential and authorize the holder to teach the specific subject in preschool through 12th grade, and classes organized primarily for adults.
Subject Matter Authorizations
Subject Matter Authorizations may be added to a Multiple or Single Subject Credential and are based upon 32 semester units of coursework or a degree major in a specific area. Introductory Subject Matter Authorizations authorize the holder to teach the subject matter content typically included in curriculum guidelines and textbooks approved for study in grades 9 and below. Specific Subject Matter Authorizations authorize the holder to teach the subject in preschool through 12th grade, and classes organized primarily for adults.
Eligibility
Supplementary authorizations require twenty semester units or ten upper division semester units, or the equivalent quarter units, of non-remedial course work in the subject. Applicants pursuing the 20 semester units option need to have 10 units complete with a grade of C or better in all courses. Applicants pursuing the 10 semester units of upper division units option need to have 5 units complete with a grade of C or better in all courses.
If selected, CEMaST will review your transcripts and recommend courses that are needed to complete the authorization. Note, this is a guide and does not guarantee coursework will be accepted by the Commission on Teacher Credentialing (CTC). CTC will make the final decisions.
