Cal Poly Pomona Rises to No. 2 University in the West in U.S. News Rankings
Cal Poly Pomona rose one spot to No. 2 among Regional Universities in the West and ranked No. 2 (tie) for Best Value for In-State Students in U.S. News & World Report’s “2027 Best Colleges” rankings.
CPP also maintained its No. 2 positions among Public Schools in the West and Best Colleges for Veterans in the West, ranked No. 11 (tie) for Social Mobility and placed No. 19 among Best Value Schools in the 15-state western region, reflecting CPP’s continued focus on expanding access and opportunity for students.

As the nation’s top polytechnic university for diversity and social mobility, CPP serves students across eight academic colleges. Its signature PolyX experiences extend learning beyond the classroom through research, internships, community-engaged projects, competitions and interdisciplinary collaboration.
CPP supports veterans and other military-affiliated students through its Veterans Resource Center, a hub for guidance, services and community. Among its programs is Horses for Heroes, a partnership with the W.K. Kellogg Arabian Horse Center that pairs student veterans with graduate assistants to care for horses while learning equine behavior, handling and health. The learn-by-doing program also incorporates opportunities for participants to focus on well-being.
Engineering Programs Rank Among Nation’s Best
The College of Engineering ranked No. 12 nationally among undergraduate engineering programs where a doctorate is not offered, with five individual programs placing among the nation’s top 10.

- No. 4: Aerospace/Aeronautical/Astronautical Engineering
- No. 5: Civil Engineering
- No. 6 (tie): Electrical/Electronic Engineering
- No. 8: Mechanical Engineering
The engineering rankings are based on peer assessments from deans and senior faculty at accredited engineering programs nationwide.
U.S. News & World Report’s “2027 Best Colleges” rankings evaluated nearly 1,700 colleges and universities using up to 17 measures of academic quality and student success. Factors include graduation and retention rates, social mobility, faculty resources (including class size and salary), peer assessment, financial resources (per student spending) and student indebtedness, with student outcomes accounting for more than half of an institution’s overall score.
