Doug Nelson, an experienced fundraiser and leader with more than 20 years of experience, is the new associate vice president for university development.

Working closely with the college deans and campus development officers, Nelson will help direct Cal Poly Pomona’s fundraising efforts and strengthen college advisory boards.

“Doug understands the importance of building meaningful relationships with campus and community leaders as we secure investments for ideas included in our new strategic plan,” said Dan Montplaisir, vice president for university advancement.

Nelson has extensive fundraising experience, from annual fund to major gifts to planned giving. He has served in a leadership role on five comprehensive capital campaigns, with goals from $30 million to $1.2 billion. In addition, he has overseen communications and the office of research and sponsored programs.

Nelson’s experience includes work at UCLA, University of Maryland College Park, University of St. Joseph and Kean University.

Nelson completed his undergraduate education at Cal State LA and has a MBA from Pepperdine University.
