Frances Teves has more than 25 years of experience in advancement, advocacy, government, and external relations in higher education and non-profit healthcare.  She has a proven track record of leading departments and cross-functional teams to advance institutional priorities, and developing strategies to help organizations manage and adapt to an ever-changing demographic, political, and philanthropic landscape.  

Teves currently serves as the Vice President for University Advancement at California State Polytechnic University, Pomona (Cal Poly Pomona), the most diverse and inclusive polytechnic university in the nation.  In this interim role, she is responsible for leading and stabilizing the division by providing strategic vision and direction; implementing a strategic planning and performance monitoring framework to advance philanthropic goals, including in areas of planned giving, corporate and foundation relations, and major gifts; engaging and stewarding key relationships through alumni relations, advancement communications, government and external affairs, and special events.     

Prior to her current role, she served as Associate Vice President for Government and External Affairs, securing more than $20 million in federal funding to support university initiatives and served as the primary legislative liaison to local, county, state, and federal officials. At the start of the COVID-19 global pandemic, Teves was tapped to lead the university’s pandemic response efforts as the Coordinator of the Safer Return Task Force. In this essential role, she facilitated the implementation of mandated COVID-19 safety protocols and oversaw communication needs to ensure consistent and ongoing messaging to the campus community on public health orders and guidance. Before joining Cal Poly Pomona, she served as Chief of Operations for University Advancement at California State University, Fullerton (CSUF), and Secretary of the CSUF Philanthropic Foundation Board of Governors.   

Teves received her bachelor’s degree in psychology from California State University, Fullerton, and a Master of Public Policy from the Price School of Public Policy at the University of Southern California.  She is the recipient of numerous awards, including the 2012 Edwin Crawford Award for Innovation, one of two such awards presented annually by CASE, AACC, APLU and AASCU.
