A Message From President Coley About the Events in Charlottesville

The violence in Charlottesville this past weekend has shined a bright light on bigotry and hate. I feel deep compassion for the victims and their loved ones, and I firmly reject any false equivalencies about who bears the responsibility for the tragedy. Our country’s diversity is among its greatest assets.

I ask you to join me in reaffirming our commitment to diversity and inclusion at Cal Poly Pomona. We are a university that is resolutely committed not simply to tolerance but to the active embrace of all members of our community. We also respect the free and robust expression of views — including those that might make us uncomfortable — but hate under the guise of expression will never find a home here.

Soraya M. Coley, President
